Welcome to the second MachineVision Lighting
News.
"The effectiveness of a Vision
System is only as good as
the image it starts with."
We're here to make sure that
your image is the best it can be.
| Uncontrollable Reflections ! |
 |
Reflective foil surfaces often cause
problems for vision
systems, especially when reading text, or barcodes.
The first image shows a foil crisp packet, seen by a
vision
system using standard fluorescent lighting. The vision
system is trying to confirm the validity of the 'best
before' date, and the code below. Under fluorescent
lighting conditions, the foil surface is making it almost
impossible to see the text due to uncontrollable creases
in the packet, giving random lighting reflections.
The second image shows the same
packet,
under the
same vision system, but this time using an Infra Red
DOAL (Diffused On Axis Light) light source. This
practically eliminates the random reflections, caused by
the creases, giving a clear and readable text pattern.

| Reduce the effect of unwanted light |
 |
In industrial settings, filters are
commonly used to limit
the influence of ambient light, which introduces an
unpredictable variable into an automated inspection.
This unwanted light can either be
eliminated by
creating a shroud over the inspection area to block the
light, or by using a Band Pass Filter, which
allows only a narrow spectrum of light to
reach the CCD.
A Band Pass Filter admits a band
approximately +/-
20nm the specified wavelength, (eg. a 660nm filter
makes wavelengths from 640nm to 680nm visible to the
CCD, while virtually eliminating all other parts of the
spectrum).
Light efficiency can be optimized by matching the filter
to the light's wavelength. This technique is
particularly useful in areas which are in bright light, to
reduce the effect of varying light levels.

| Lake Image and Capley Marker - a new partnership |
 |
Capley Marker was formed in 1991
to meet a demand
for high quality cost effective solutions to automation
problems. This principle has seen them through to the
present day and allowed them to grow substantially and
develop an enviable reputation for quality systems.
Because both Capley Marker and
Lake Image work
closely with clients, trust and communication are of
vital importance. Both companies pride themselves on
having the flexibility to offer a very competitive solution
for your vision requirements.
"Utilizing Capley Markers'
vision system
expertise, with
Lake Images lighting knowledge, we can provide a very
reliable and robust solution to your vision requirements,
no matter how difficult you have been told it is to
provide such a solution."

Difficult Vision
Application?
Unreliable vision system?
Been told that it can't be done?
Whether you are an integrator or
an end user, do
not despair! If you have a vision system, or are
looking into acquiring one for a particular application, do
not worry that the vision system cannot do the
required job!
Lighting is a key factor in
making a
vision system
robus and reliable, and is often seen as a minor
part
of the project. Just using different lighting can often
prove applications successful that have been deemed
impossible by an integrator or even a vision system
supplier.
Lake Image are exhibiting at
IPOT
2004. Bring a sample along to our stand, tell us
what
you need
to achieve with your vision system and we will evaluate
the product at our in-house vision lab, and give you a
quick response as to how we can achieve the desired
result. Visit us on stand B88.
