Lake Image Systems have successfully completed a contract for London Underground Ltd, supplying 235 Video monitors designed for the Northern Line Track to Train CCTV system installed on the 1995 Tube Stock Trains provided by Infraco JNP Limited for London Underground’s Northern Line.

Designed as a direct replacement for existing units, the monitors are mounted in the cabs of each underground train.  As the train enters a station, live images are displayed via the monitors from mounted cameras along the platform, allowing the driver to view the exterior of the train for any safety hazards prior to releasing / locking the doors and moving away. As an integral part of the Track to Train CCTV system, the monitors had to meet all the demands of an underground railway installation, and are fully approved to RIA12/13 specifications. 

Based on the RDV range from LIS, the ruggedised monitors feature a high brightness, high resolution, Flat Panel TFT display. They are configured and controlled for optimum performance for both tunnel and daylight viewing - a stringent requirement of the application, due to the varied environmental and ambient lighting conditions peculiar to Northern Line stations. Prior to contract award the monitor design and performance passed a series of rigorous tests and trials for a period of 6 months to ensure total suitability of the product and technology for the installation. 

Specialising in displays for rugged environments, LIS have supplied ruggedised flat screen monitors for a range of vehicle applications, including fixed and rotary wing aircraft. Sizes are available from 6” to 15” with data and video input capability.
